eTVD

The Ticket Validation Database (eTVD) stores and provides usage information on all barcoded rail tickets, and is an integral part of the security of these tickets. The database maintains up to date information from a number of sources:

• Tickets scanned by an on-board validation system
• Tickets presented for entry or exit through a gate at a rail station
• Tickets cancelled or refunded through the original ticket issuer

This information is then provided to on-board validation systems and station gate systems to ensure that tickets presented for travel are valid, have not already been used, and have not been cancelled or refunded.
